Ownership and clearance
Freehold in the Canaries is open to non-residents, so the structure question is narrower here than in most island markets — and it is replaced by a procedural one. The archipelago is a designated zone of interest for national defence (Ley 8/1975, RD 689/1978), so a non-EU buyer needs Ministry of Defence authorisation on a purchase where an EU buyer needs none. It delays rather than blocks, and it is settled before an offer because it is a condition of the deed rather than a formality after it.
